Foreword

Bob Dugan would have made a great Congressman. He's smart, energetic, meets people well, and has a voice that resonates with authority. He is also an excellent public speaker with a flair for clearly and persuasively stating his case on complex issues of public policy.

So it was only natural that Bob would run for office. And in 1976 he did so, becoming a candidate for the United States House of Representatives. Had he won the election, it could have been the start of a brilliant political career.

But this book might never have been written.

Thoughtful Christians, especially those of us who are alarmed about the moral depravity of our days, have good reason to be thankful this book was written. Let us hope that it will be widely read and acted upon by believers everywhere.

It turned out that the Lord did not plan for Bob to become a Congressman, at least no in 1976. Instead Bob was called to the nation's capitol to head the Office of Public Affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals. In that capacity, he has become one of America's leading strategists and spokesmen on moral, legislative, and political issues of concern to Christians.

Most of us, especially followers of Jesus Christ, are

concerned. We realize that America, despite its greatness and freedom and prosperity, is deeply troubled. Thoughtful citizens can scarcely ignore the grisly toll that suicide, abortion, divorce, drugs, pornography, homosexuality, secularism, cheating, and cynicism have had on our beloved country.

Our Lord asked, "What will a man be profited if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul?"

Many of us think the same principle applies to our nation. What is the profit to America if we have endless economic prosperity, computers and a hundred channels of television in every home, new cars, boats, glamorous vacations, and more . . . if our families are shattered, our children are corrupted; if we forget or throw away the values and traditions that are the soul of America; or worst of all, if we Christians fail to honor Jesus Christ?

Bob Dugan meets such issues head-on with faith, optimism, and a firm intention to reclaim America's heritage of biblical values. He demonstrates how a person can fight for principle in the political world without compromising his testimony.

Firmly rooted in the Bible, the U.S. Constitution and the wealth of practical experience, this book gives believers a solid grounding on major issues, a framework for strategy, and a battle plan for honoring God in the political process.

In this book, Bob Dugan is not seeking merely to entertain or engage your attention. He wants to change your life. He intends to recruit and motivate you to help turn things around for America.

I pray he will be sucessful in doing so.
